History of Sigma Alpha Zeta
In 1992 a group of women at California State University Fresno organized with the specific purpose of creating a unique organization that promoted multiculturalism, community service, and education. In May of 1995, Sigma Alpha Zeta's Alpha chapter was officially recognized on the campus of CSU Fresno. That same year, the sorority invited like-minded women from San Jose State University to join their ranks as their Beta chapter. The group decided that this sorority would offer the best multicultural outlet for women on their campus. The Beta chapter was officially founded at SJSU on December 15th, 1995. Sigma Alpha Zeta recognizes the national founding date as October 17th, 1992.
